FOMO

The FOMO Trap: Why We’re All Afraid of Missing Out (and How to Fix It)

We’ve all been there. You’re lounging on your couch, scrolling through Instagram, when you see it: a group of friends at a concert you weren't invited to, or a colleague posting about a promotion while you're still in your pajamas. Suddenly, that cozy night in feels like a failure.
That sinking feeling in your stomach? That’s FOMO—the Fear of Missing Out.

What exactly is FOMO?

At its core, FOMO is the anxiety that others are having rewarding experiences from which you are absent. While the feeling has existed as long as humans have lived in social groups, the digital age has turned it into a 24/7 spectator sport.
Social media acts as a "highlight reel." We compare our messy, behind-the-scenes reality to everyone else’s polished, filtered best moments. It’s an unfair fight, and it’s one that often leads to stress, poor sleep, and a lack of focus.

The Cost of Always Being "On"

The irony of FOMO is that in our rush to make sure we don't miss anything, we often miss the very moment we’re in. When you’re at a dinner but spent half the time checking your phone to see what else is happening, you aren't actually present for the dinner you're at.

How to Flip the Script: From FOMO to JOMO

The antidote to the Fear of Missing Out is JOMO—the Joy of Missing Out. It’s the intentional choice to be present and content with where you are, even if there’s something "cooler" happening elsewhere.
Here’s how to start:
  1. Filter Your Feed: If certain accounts consistently make you feel "less than," hit unfollow or mute. Your mental health is more important than a follower count.
  2. Practice Digital Fasting: Set "no-phone zones," like during meals or the hour before bed.
  3. Celebrate the "No": Every time you say no to an event you don't actually want to go to, you're saying yes to your own time, rest, and peace of mind.
FOMO is just a trick of the mind telling you that the "real" life is happening somewhere else. But the truth? The best life is the one you’re actually living!

(Two post in one day, I might just be on a role 😝!)

ART

Lets talk about ART

Art is often at its most powerful when it’s atmospheric. There is a specific pull toward the "stormy" side of creativity—where technical mastery meets raw, untamed nature. From the anatomical precision of the Renaissance to the blurred edges of Impressionism, history’s greatest minds used the dark and the dramatic to define human genius.

Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci didn’t just paint; he engineered light. He pioneered sfumato, a technique where colors blend into one another without harsh lines, mimicking the way smoke or a storm front moves across a landscape.
  • For Da Vinci, shadows weren't just "darkness"—they were a way to reveal the soul. His journals are filled with hyper-detailed sketches of water currents and storm clouds, treating the weather like a complex machine.

Monet

While Claude Monet is the king of the garden, his most intense works were born from the chaos of the coast. He would often stand in the middle of a gale, his easel weighted down with stones, to capture the exact "impression" of a stormy night or a crashing wave.
  • He moved away from objects and focused entirely on the atmosphere. In his world, a storm isn't a subject; it’s a living, breathing color palette of greys, deep indigos, and flashes of white.

Picasso

Pablo Picasso had a unique ability to deconstruct a mood. During his Blue Period, he stripped away the warmth of life to focus on the cold, blue-tinted reality of the human condition.
  • Sharp angles and monochromatic depths. Much like the tension before a lightning strike, his work from this era feels heavy, quiet, and profoundly intense.

Van Gogh

You can't discuss the drama of the night without the swirling energy of The Starry Night. Though Van Gogh wasn’t a "High Renaissance" master like Da Vinci, his work represents the peak of emotional turbulence. His thick, rhythmic brushstrokes turn a quiet sky into a cosmic storm, making the viewers feel the wind rather than just seeing it.

Dreams and aspiration

 May 13, 2026

Little bit of ranting

Hello beautiful people, we are nearing the end of our 2025-2026 school year and as a junior everybody starts asking the big question, what do you want to do when you graduate? Ive always been the person with the plan. I had my future planed out when I was 7. However, people change and dreams expand. My main dream was to own a day care, but now I feel like I should want more for my life. Why would I put the lid on the box of my life when I could leave it open for adventures. I want to start a new journey, it's not one that many people respect or understand but I feel that I need to make the change. When I graduate, I want to throw my entire life into a van and travel the world. Now you may be asking, how in the world are you going to make that work? Well, with a lot of saving and hope.

For reference, this is what I mean:

Can you image, the peace and tranquility you would get from being on the open road, nothing holding you back from experiencing all the world has to offer.

Anyways, I hope that you all have an amazing day, I most likely will create another post today since I will not be able to make another one until Friday due to work.

Love you all and remember to always dream big,

Ash
